I sat down with Eric Abuto, a radio presenter here in Kenya, who drilled me on the importance of video and photography for your website and blog.
The recent Social Intelligence Report by Adobe shows increased engagement for posts with video and images. Video growth is up by 265% and posts with images average 30 times more engagement than posts without images.
I took the opportunity to also highlight a few things that make an engaging video. An engaging video should generally be informative, educational, and short. It should be easily shareable, and if possible, funny.

I shot this video a while back for a women’s organization. I finally got down to edit it. I had my Canon 60D and the Zoom H4N during the shoot.

Its getting really competitive out there on the web and only those adapting to change are bound to make it.
I am talking about the new visual medium that is changing how people interact, engage, and communicate with brands. We are in the age of video, images, and infographics. These visual aspects of communication have been getting more engagement and driving more likes, shares, and comments on Facebook and Twitter pages.
Whether you operate a small home business with a Facebook page, or run a large multinational company, video and images should already be on your to-do list.
You cannot afford to wait otherwise you will end up playing the catch up game. Start shooting high definition images and videos and use them as part of your online marketing efforts.
It’s never too early to get started, but it may be too late if you wait.
Shooting in a hot noon day sun creates challenges due to overexposure. Turning the dial of your DSLR to manual will help you control how much light gets into the lens in order to give your images the right shades.
I shot the images below using my Canon 6D. I used both a fixed 50mm lens and a 70-300mm zoom lens to get various depth of fields and color saturations. I also employed a reflector for some of the shots.

This being my first movie review, it was a bit challenging to figure out what to talk about. The movie is still relatively new and this is like the 44th time it has been redone, but with better graphics and millions of dollars in budget.
I had my friend, Eric, come up and help me out with this review. While the shoot took about an hour, it took me about 5 hours to edit the whole thing.
Audio is really important when doing a review and so I had to bring out the big guns to ensure top quality. I shot the review using a Canon T3i (my older camera) and my newer Canon 6D. I used a Zoom H4N for audio as well as two other mics to ensure it was top quality. I edited the movie using the Videopad application and used Audacity to improve the audio before piecing the two together. It cost me an entire Sunday morning to get entire done ready.
It was also necessary to script what my talent was going to say. This is really important if you have never done a review as it will ensure the presentation flows giving you more time to add cut scenes for cinematic effects.
All in all we were happy with our first review and we look forward to doing more.
